National Nutrition Month 2025: The Biggest Nutrition Trends So Far

March is National Nutrition Month, a time to celebrate healthy eating habits, science-backed nutrition, and the small changes that make a big difference in our well-being. As we hit the three-month mark of 2025, let’s take a look at the top nutrition topics that have been making waves this year.

1. The Rise of Personalized Nutrition

Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all diets - but if you’re getting your nutrition advice from me, then you know this already ;)

In 2025, personalized nutrition—tailoring dietary recommendations based on genetics, microbiome testing, and metabolic responses—is more popular than ever. People are embracing at-home testing kits and AI-driven meal plans to optimize their nutrition based on their unique biology.  I would caution you that many of these are not well tested or evidence based.  They also tend to be expensive and often cause more confusion than clarity for most.

Takeaway: While these tools can be helpful, they’re not perfect. Always pair them with evidence-based guidance from a registered dietitian for the best results.  There are many interventions that can be used to determine the best nutrition plan for you before investing in expensive testing.

2. The Gut Health Revolution Continues

The link between gut health and overall well-being has been a hot topic for years, and in 2025, it’s only getting stronger. We’re seeing more focus on prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics—along with the importance of fiber and diverse plant-based foods for a thriving gut microbiome.

Challenge: Aim for 30 different plant-based foods per week (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds) to nourish your gut bacteria.

3. Anti-Inflammatory Eating is Here to Stay

With chronic inflammation linked to everything from heart disease to autoimmune conditions.  While "inflammation" can be tricky to define and track -  the anti-inflammatory diet has remained a top trend due to benefits observed in those who follow it. People are focusing on foods rich in omega-3s, antioxidants, and polyphenols, while reducing ultra-processed foods and added sugars tend to report weight loss, improve insulin sensitivity, and increased energy.

Top Anti-Inflammatory Picks for 2025: Fatty fish (salmon, sardines) Extra virgin olive oil Berries & dark leafy greens Nuts & seeds (especially walnuts and flaxseeds)

4. Blood Sugar Balance for Everyone

Managing blood sugar spikes isn’t just for people with diabetes—it’s a wellness trend that’s gaining mainstream attention. More people are using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and prioritizing meal timing, protein intake, and fiber to prevent energy crashes and improve metabolic health.

Quick Tip: Start meals with fiber-rich veggies to slow down glucose absorption and keep energy levels stable.

5. The Shift Toward Sustainable Eating

Sustainability is another major theme in 2025, with more people choosing climate-friendly diets that focus on plant-forward eating, local foods, and reducing food waste. Brands are responding by offering regeneratively farmed products, upcycled snacks, and plant-based protein innovations.

What You Can Do: Choose seasonal and locally grown produce Reduce food waste by planning meals ahead Support brands that prioritize sustainable farming
